SP10 Automated Smoke Point Analyzer for the analysis of Jet Fuel. </p>
<p>The SP10 Revolutionizes Smoke Point Testing. This unique automated instrument uses a patented system (License TOTAL RM) based on a video camera that measures the flame. The flame image is digitalized. The dedicated software determines the height of the flame when its shape corresponds to the one described in the test method. This specific flame is the one with the maximum height without smoke generation. The SP10 performs three determinations of the flame heights and reports the average value in strict accordance with the test method. The results are saved in an internal database and can be printed, transferred to a USB memory stick and/or sent to a LIMS. Every test is fully documented and traceable, which is imperative for aviation industry quality procedures.</p>
<p>The SP10 is an Automated Smoke Point instrument that strictly follows the test method while both eliminating the subjectivity inherent to the manual test and significantly improving repeatability and reproducibility. Additionally, the SP10 eliminates all safety risks linked to the visual observation of an open flame. The test can now be run unattended which drastically reduces labor costs.</p>

DR10 Heater Tube Deposit Rater and the SP10 Automated Smoke Point Analyzer for the analysis of Jet Fuel.</p>
<p>The Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Test, ASTM D3241, is universally used by the industry to measure high temperature stability of aviation turbine fuels. The DR10 Heater Tube Deposit Rater new instrumental method of quantitative measurement of tube deposits developed by AD System, accurately determines the thickness of the deposit automatically, drastically reducing test subjectivity.</p>
<p>The Smoke Point Method, ASTM D1322, IP57, ISO3014, is one of the oldest test methods in the petroleum industry. This test method provides an indication of the relative smoke producing properties of kerosenes and aviation turbine fuels in a diffusion flame. The visual measurement of an open flame is a very challenging exercise and poses risk for lab personal. The SP10 revolutionizes this test. The analyzer automatically adjusts the size of the flame using a video camera. When the flame attains the shape described in the test method, the SP10 memorizes and reports the height of the flame.</p>
<p>AD Systems has also developed the NEW! DT100 is the only instrument that automatically and simultaneously measures contamination index (content of sooty insoluble material in lubricants) and provides unique information on oil dispersancy. The DT100 is an integral part of Oil Condition Monitoring Programs for in-service lubricants.</p>

The Lovibond® PFX195/2 Automatic Transmittance Colorimeter by Tintometer® Provides Mobile Petroleum Testing Worldwide by the U. S. Armed Services.</p>
<p>The Lovibond® PFX195/2 Automatic Transmittance Colorimeter by Tintometer® is currently being used in mobile petroleum testing worldwide by the U. S. Armed Services.  The instrument is part of the Army’s Petroleum Quality Analysis System – Enhanced (PQAS-E), which is a complete mobile petroleum laboratory capable of modified B-2 level testing in accordance with (IAW) Military Standard (MIL-STD) 3004 on kerosene based and diesel military fuels.</p>
<p>According to Jim Doherty, System Acquisition Manager of Petroleum Labs and Test Kits, PM Petroleum and Water Systems, “The Army’s existing capability to test the quality on diesel and turbine military fuels in forward locations with maneuver units is slow and relatively immobile.  Desert Storm’s experience showed that these semi-fixed laboratories are not adequately maneuverable for modern, rapidly developing battle scenarios.”</p>
<p>Doherty adds, “Commanders on the modern battlefield need specialized mobile equipment to test fuels acquired from both friendly and enemy sources to enhance the sustainment of momentum and operational/tactical freedom.”</p>
<p>Tintometer’s PFX195/2, as part of the Army’s PQAS-E fuel analysis unit, can be set up and operational within one hour of delivery to the battlefield. Jill Tebbe, Project Chemist and Administrator, explains the evolution of the PQAS-E Program, “The earlier PQAS labs were mounted on Humvees.  When the Army upped the armor requirement on the Humvees, it overloaded the lab. They decided to go to the 20-foot ISO container as it opened up more room for the testing equipment.”</p>
<p>The PFX195/2 Colorimeter was selected by the Army to test both the ASTM and Saybolt color of the fuels that are acquired from both friendly and enemy sources.  The PFX195/2 is automated and requires less than 20 seconds per test.  The colorimeter underwent weeks of testing for reliability including road courses, exposure to harsh environments, and drop testing.  There are approximately 80 PQAS-E units being built out that include the PFX195/2 Colorimeter.</p>
<p>Tintometer Limited, which manufactures the colorimeter, was founded in 1885 by Joseph Williams Lovibond.  The company has been known throughout the world for its expertise in the field of colorimetry and continues to be a leader in its field today.</p>
<p>Jeff Weller, Sales and Marketing Manager for DC Scientific, who represents Tintometer Limited, says, “The Lovibond® PFX195/2 Automatic Transmittance Colorimeter by Tintometer® is an economical colorimeter for optically clear samples that meets the demand for consistent and reliable color data.  It removes all subjectivity involved in color grading, supplying unbiased readings that are unaffected by operator or environment.  DC Scientific and Lovibond are very proud to be part of the PQAS-E project.”</p>
<p>Tebbe, adds, “It’s our intention here to update the laboratories every three or so years.  We are always looking for equipment that uses smaller sample size, along with faster sample testing and reduced need for solvents. DC Scientific was also able to produce disposable test cells for use in the field – something that has benefitted us greatly by removing the need for cleaning solvents.”</p>
<p>Tebbe further explains that the main requirement for instruments in the PQAS-E is that soldiers, who have limited chemistry background or lab operations, can operate this equipment with ease.  She adds, “The PFX195/2 more than meets this requirement –it is the quickest test in the laboratory.”</p>
<p>Readings on the Lovibond® PFX195/2 take less than 25 seconds to complete. The system software on the PQAS-E provides an information database/expert system for the technician to consult in the interpretation of test results and in making recommendations for the disposition of fuels.  The automated data acquisition features allow test data from the Lovibond® PFX195/2 to be sent directly to the on-board system software which reduces data transcription errors.</p>
<p>While the Army is the first of the U.S. Armed Forces to utilize the Lovibond® PFX195/2, its applications in the other U.S. Armed Forces will be forthcoming as the need for efficient, mobile testing methods increases on the battlefield.</p>
